Embracing Self-Care and Self-Love: A Journey to True Wellness

Hello beautiful soul,

How are you? How’s life treating you lately? Are you noticing shifts and changes, or perhaps more opportunities to choose a different path?

When we dive into self-care, self-love, spirituality, and personal growth, it’s incredible how we start to see so many opportunities to practice a new way of being—opportunities that were always there, but we just couldn’t see them before. It’s like turning on the windshield wipers in the rain; suddenly, the path becomes clearer. If you’re like me, you also need your glasses—especially at night, when the rain, darkness, and bright car lights make everything a bit blurry.

But I’m sure you’re here because you’re ready to learn more about self-care and self-love, to truly nurture yourself on a deep level. Not only will we explore what these concepts mean, but we’ll also dive into how to actually implement a self-care routine into your already jam-packed life. So, let’s get right into it.

The Challenge of Self-Care and Self-Love

For many of us, especially women, self-care and self-love can be tough topics. We deal with comparisonitis, our past experiences, relationships, upbringing, and societal expectations. All these factors shape the way we view ourselves. Unfortunately, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution to truly loving and caring for yourself on a spiritual, emotional, and mental level—because we’re all unique, with our own journeys and experiences.

But, while there isn’t a universal solution, I’ve learned some tips and tricks along the way that might just help you. If something resonates with you, I encourage you to try it. What’s the worst that could happen? It might not work, but it might just be the thing you need.

What is Self-Care, Really?

Self-care is the prioritization and awareness of your inner world and body. This includes not just physical self-care (the most popular and arguably easiest to act on) but also mental, emotional, and spiritual self-care. Each aspect of ourselves requires different practices to ensure our metaphorical “cup” is full. While there’s overlap between these areas, you don’t need to do five different self-care practices daily. The key is balance and making sure that all aspects of who you are—the beautiful and amazing soul having this human experience—are fulfilled.

It’s about awareness as much as it is about action. Some days, when energy is low, it’s not about doing more but becoming aware of what your body, mind, and spirit need. This awareness helps guide you to the right action, whether it’s taking a physical step or something more spiritual or emotional.

The Power of Awareness

Awareness is the first step in effective self-care. For example, I recently experienced a significant dip in energy after coming off birth control. My body was trying to figure itself out, and instead of rushing to “fix” it with random self-care actions, I took the time to become aware of what was really going on. I realized that what I needed was spiritual healing, which then led me to balance my hormones. Everything started to fall into place once I understood my body’s needs and took action based on that awareness.

Self-care isn’t just about taking care of the body—it’s about tuning into what you really need, whether that’s a sound bath, a good book, a podcast, or even a good cry. The root of your discomfort might not be physical, and the solution might not be a typical self-care activity like going to the gym or taking a bath. It’s about asking yourself what’s really going on and responding accordingly.

Implementing Self-Care into a Busy Life

So, how can you actually implement a self-care routine into your already busy life? It starts with paying attention to your body. Notice if you’re feeling tired, on edge, or if your body is giving you signs like tight shoulders, headaches, or a lack of motivation. These are signals that your cup might be getting low.

Once you understand what’s going on, take small, manageable steps to address it. If you’re feeling tired, ask yourself what’s changed recently or what small thing you can do today to help. Self-care doesn’t have to be a massive project; it can be as simple as choosing dried mango instead of cake or doing a five-minute meditation.

Setting Boundaries for Consistency

If you’re ready to build a more regular practice, start by identifying the most essential areas of your life. Write down the top five to ten things that are most important to you, and then focus on the two areas that need the most attention right now. Break these areas down into small, manageable steps and set boundaries for yourself. This will help you stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed.

For example, if you want to meditate daily, set a lower boundary of five minutes and an upper boundary of ten minutes. This way, you can stay consistent without overcommitting.

Remember, this journey of self-care and self-love is a continuous process, not a destination. Embrace the small steps, celebrate your progress, and be gentle with yourself through the ups and downs. Each day is a new opportunity to nurture your mind, body, and spirit.
